Biography

Professor C.H. Cho received his undergraduate and master training in Taiwan and USA. He graduated with a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1978. He went through his postdoctoral training in Canada and started his first faculty position in the National Yang Ming Medical College and Veterans General Hospital Taipei in 1981 as associate professor and investigator, respectively in Taiwan. He went back to HKU in 1984 as lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology and became Chair Professor of Pharmacology in 2000. Later in his academic career, Prof. Cho joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2007 as Chairman and Professor of Pharmacology in the Department of Pharmacology. He has been the Research Professor and Associate Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine in CUHK. He becomes Emeritus Professor in the same university in 2016. Professionally he was President (2006-2010) and Chair of Presidential Council (2012-2015) of the Gastrointestinal Pharmacology Section of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology and also council members in a number of professional bodies in ulcer research and gastrointestinal pharmacology. Prof. Cho has been the Visiting and Honorary Professors in the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Virginia Tech, University of Maryland, and University of California and also Distinguished Professor in the Southwest Medical University. His current research interests focus on drug development for inflammation and cancers in the gastrointestinal tract. He publishes over 370 peer-reviewed articles and 60 reviews in journals and 18 book chapters. He is also the editor of eight books in gastrointestinal ulcer and cancer. He holds 2 patents concerning drug treatment for gastrointestinal disorders in CUHK. Professor Cho has served as the editorial board member, associate editor and editor in more than 55 journals in the fields of Gastroenterology and Pharmacology.
